Getting Started in ESL: Intake Strategies (with Ray Campbell)

This interactive session is designed to introduce you to promising practices in welcoming new ESL students and families to their school and classroom. It will benefit those teachers who are in a jurisdiction or location where readily accessible central supports are either limited or do not exist. It is also designed to assist those who have limited training or experience in responding to the needs of newly arriving students and families needing English as a Second Language support.

About the Facilitator

Ray Campbell

Ray Campbell, Coordinator of Education with Fort McMurray Public School District
Ray is in his 30th year as an educator. He has taught in grades 3 through 8, English and French Immersion, has been a Learning Assistance Centre Teacher, School Counselor, Vice Principal, Principal, District French Coordinator, and Coordinator of various curriculum areas. For the last five years, Ray has facilitated a local ESL Committee that has determined direction of ESL programming and capacity building in Fort McMurray Public Schools. It is through the work of that committee that the intent and content of his presentation was developed.
